Parish Finances were presented by Bill Carroll and Bill
Breslawski. There are no plans to close the school. There is a decline in
enrollment at SHS as well as throughout the diocese. The registered parish
population is up, but Baptisms are down and household contributions are down
from 5 years ago. 176 students are presently enrolled at SHS.
The Archdiocese recommends
that the parish finance committee should reduce the parish subsidy, which is
presently 33%. To increase revenue, steps are taken to increase enrollment
and tithing will be re-introduced. A tuition increase is likely. Also, a
pre-school will be added provided the demand for the service makes sense
financially.
Cost-saving measures have
been implemented such as deferring unnecessary projects, freezing salaries,
layoffs, reducing printing, re-negotiating the cleaning contract.
Other tuitions from area
schools were presented and SHS has the lowest tuition. SHS offers one of the
best discounts families with more than one child (10% for 2 kids, 17% for 3
kids, 24% for 4 kids).
Parishoners and parents can
help by volunteering, marketing the school, encouraging others to attend
Mass, offering cost-saving ideas, and supporting fundraisers. Use Scrip as
often as possible with daily personal shopping.
Winners of Shop with Scrip
gift cards are Mary Shields and Theresa McKeon.
Next meeting is 01/24/2011.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10
PM.
